GDP Fall

#318053

Postby Gostevie » June 12th, 2020, 8:38 pm

It is reported that the UK"s GDP fell by 20.4% in April.

Does that mean a 20.4% drop over the previous month (March 2020) or the equivalent month in the previous year (April 2019)?

Looking for a factual answer, not any comments on the fall itself please.

Many thanks in advance.

Looks like month on month:

Monthly gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 20.4% in April 2020, the biggest monthly fall since the series began in 1997.

Supplementary questions would be:
Is there a significant difference between the candidate figures?
How is it affected by which month in a particular year the Easter break falls into?
Is it normalised for the Easter break?
