Cleaning oil off worktop

Hi Folks, The area around our cooker hob gets very sticky with spitting oil from frying. Worktop is a composite material, not wood, not metal. Anyone any ideas of how to clean it? Preferably something you’ve tried and works.
Cheers, Ray.

I'm curious, have you actually tried cleaning it with anything and failed? What doesn't work?

I'd be expecting Kitchen Flash spray which "Removes up to 100% of grease" (according to mine) to work perfectly well.

There are many types of "composite" material.

Corian is a composite made by DuPont often used for worktops. You could treat that fairly roughly.
A more inexpensive worktop choice is vinyl coated wood chip board.
The vinyl makes it waterproof. I have read a suggestion of coating with a paste of baking powder and water. Leaving 15 min and then wiping it off. Try it on a small out of the way area first.

I have a mix of worktops. Most are the vinyl type, but the one by the cooker is my marble pastry worktop. I can use light abrasives to get the frying grease off. Yes it happens to me too.

Try Swarfega.
Dab on, leave a while, wash off with cold water.

Hi, I should have said I tried Fairy and hot water, multipurpose cleaner, homemade cleaner containing vinegar. The worktop is like a rubbersied material, so not a vinyl or granite. I make bread on it so it will stand a plastic dough scraper being used on it. I suspect it needs multiple attempts with water as hot as is safe, although I have forgotten about Swarfega - good call. I used to repair/restore vintage/veteran cars in my younger days and the Swarfega was the go to 'muck shifter'.

Thanks,
Ray.

I found that sugar soap used to work very well on my stainless steel cooker hood to remove grease.

Melamine foam, sold as magic eraser can work wonders on a lot of surfaces

It's ever so lightly abrasive and we use it on an enameled hob for stuff that otherwise would just be permanent stains

I would have another go with Fairy liquid, but squirt it on neat then rub with a damp/wet sponge. Heat won't make a massive difference as the worktop will cool the water quite quickly.

Alternatively try some Bio clothes washing liquid, but I've always found the 'green' CILLIT BANG! to be an excellent degreaser - cooker hoods, splashbacks, motorcycle rear wheels, garage floors, etc.

I've just tried the "Flash Kitchen" I recommended earlier on the layer of old grease deposits on my cooker hood and it smashed through it in a single wipe.

Why not try the product designed and sold specifically for the job?

Hi Folks,

Better late than never update (been a busy couple of weeks). Tried Flash Kitchen, including spraying it on and leaving it. Suspect it's the nature of the surface but Flash Kitchen didn't touch. What eventually worked was Fairy Washing Up Liquid neat, rub it in and success or as my ballroom dancing teacher used to say 'Job's a good'en'. Hopefully now the Flash Kitchen will keep it under control.

Thanks for all the suggestions,
Ray.
