Is it normal for a small orchestra like that to play so well with no conductor?

He does conduct the first few bars. Maybe the orchestra follow his body movements after that. He doesn't use his body (or face) as much as Alondra de la Parra though, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjZPHW0qVvo

I quite like his rendition of Bésame Mucho, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNCxzbW9mtY
He managed to wreck O Fortuna. This is the dullest rendition I have ever heard, !!! WARNING: LIABLE TO INDUCE SEVERE DEPRESSION !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QPU1VpPn2s

If you liked that, you might like this (same conductor, same orchestra): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv9ii_uc2Rc
