Thanks for confirming. Itsallaguess has pointed out that (when in reply mode) the panel to the right shows is off

How about like this?

No.

The other place that I use that has a board looking like this has a "Link" button next to the code one.

I've just noticed to the right - is OFF

As a work-around for now, is it not quite simple to double-click any http: line and after the whole URL has become highlighted, then right-click on it and select the 'Open in new tab' option from your right-click context menu?

This certainly works like this in my Firefox browser, and will hopefully be an option in other browsers too? Would be interesting for any confirmation with this to help others who will ask a similar question.

Cheers,

Itsallaguess

The format is
Please click [url<eq>http://boards.fool.co.uk/beerpigs-snug-51651.aspx]here
normally, but it brings up the error message: You cannot use certain BBCodes: . for some reason (probably because the option has been switched off).

Regards,
Chris
*substitute "=" for <eq>

Yes plenty of workarounds, albeit your method fails for me on Safari. It was only a Test post to see, it turns out, if urls were on. Now we know. I'm stuck with c&p'ing at the moment.

Who are you asking to chill? My OP was a Test, as stated.

Hmmm, evidence if any is needed that we need a reply to post option rather than reply to thread!

Agree on that front but perhaps comments such as "chill", especially in the early days here, should be avoided.

In my browser (Firefox) a triple click is needed, but it does work and seems simple and easy enough.

Using the quote function solves the "Reply to post"problem.

I'm sure you know how to use it, but for the benefit of any new folk who have only used the TMF boards, if you wish to reply to a specific post rather than simply add a general comment, click on the button top right of the post with the inverted commas on it.

This will open a posting area with the whole post you want to quote at the top.

You can delete parts if you wish to highlight just a phrase, a sentence or a paragraph but be careful not to delete the square brackets and their contents.

Post your reply after the closing square brackets and Bob's your Uncle.

The only slight complication is embedded quotes.

If the post you quote contains other quotes, there will be sets of square brackets for each of them. It is ok to delete the "inner" sets if you wish, as long as you delete matching opening and closing sets and always leave the very first and very last.

Finally, to check you have it right, a quick preview is useful. At least that will be familiar to most Fools :)

Thanks for that triple click trick k333. I've previously used click/drag to highlight the entire url before right clicking and selecting open in new tab.

You also posted "If you use firefox and install the linkification addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/linkification/ then the following will be a clickable link, otherwise you'll have to click/drag to highlight it and then right-click and open in new tab" in another thread.

I think it is a measure to stop spammers from posting links to all sorts of things. Stooz is looking into making the posting of URLs possible after a person has posted a certain number of legit posts.

Clickable links seem to be working for me. I posted a couple in another thread and I've been back and checked, they do work.

I'm using IE.

"I'm stuck with c&p'ing at the moment."

I had to re-read that as I thought you'd needed a quick comfort break due to some sort of intestinal disorder then realised it was cut and pasting...
