Yes, I know there's a football board, but my question is a straightforward DAK.

I'm right in saying that if Chelsea beat Manchester City in the Champions League Cup Final, all of today's excitement over who will secure the final 2 Champions League places will prove to be academic?

No.

Who will qualify for the Champions League?

The top four in the Premier League qualify for the Champions League group stages - plus the winners of the Champions League and Europa League.

There can be a maximum of five English teams in the Champions League.

Right, so it only applies if Chelsea finish 5th after today?

If Chelsea finish outside the top four, but go on to win the Champions League, then they'll also qualify for next year's competition.

With Champions League finalists City and Europa League finalists United already secure, only Chelsea beating City in the Champions League final and finishing fifth would see England's five-team quota fulfilled.
