DAK why the G7 shindig is being held....
..... in Carbis Bay? It's a million miles from anywhere (apart from St Ives) and the hotel appears to be pretty nondescript, with no big grounds or golf course, etc. Transport and access seems pretty bad also.
Just seems weird to me. Is the hotel owner a Tory donor?

I thought I heard it was somewhere that Boris' parents used to stay on holiday.......but I don't know if that was why it was picked as the venue.

And that's probably at least part of the reason why; makes it more difficult for protesters to turn up, and keeps the costs down 'cos they won't need zillions of cops to keep the braying mobs at bay.

Easy to defend/control access with less impact on the local economy than, say, St Ives?

I'm assuming Carbis Bay Hotel, based on this webcam link (and some Google search) sent to me by a friend living in Carbis Bay.

. About 6,500 police officers from across the UK are on duty, one-fifth of them housed on a cruise ship anchored off Falmouth.
There are 1,000 police vehicles on the streets of Cornwall, 150 dogs standing by and 18 police drones. Officers are armed with guns, baton rounds, stun guns, smoke and stun grenades and incapacitant spray.
The Royal Navy ships HMS Tyne and HMS Tamar are among the vessels that lie off the Cornish coast.

2 friends of mine picked this week to have a hiliday in St Ives. At least they should be safe.
