Football water
I noticed watching the Euro competition that when a sub comes on they often drink water from a bottle and then immediately spit it out. DAK what the purpose of this is?

This is rather technical for me but my guess is to rinse out the mouth and get it moist without risking having to go to the loo for the next 45 minutes.

Re: Football water
"Recent research has shown that there may be an alternative to drinking sports drinks. For exercise lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, swilling the drink around in your mouth and then spitting it out produces the same performance-enhancing results as swallowing it."

Surely they're running around vigorously? A level of exercise that means the bladder won't be a problem. Unless perhaps they're elderly or pregnant?

Re: Football water
Perhaps it contains a substance to improve the game.
After all, football is really a game of fouling and shirt holding with moments of pure football in between.
