I tapped my oyster which was in my wallet when getting onto a bus
Behind that card was my office pass card
It said "Error multiple cards detected"
so it would appear that it won't charge/recognise more than one

not that much of a PITA

Not "that much" is subjective, but it's still more than just slapping your whole wallet against the reader without having to take out any card at all. Indeed, I often see women just presenting their bag to the reader, without needing to even take out their wallet (/purse). ;)

I nobbled my only contactless card precisely for such tapping-in convenience without suffering from "card clash". But each to their own I guess...

I like to choose which card to use for any given transaction and so it makes sense to remove only that card from my wallet and "slap" that one. Takes me perhaps 2 seconds.

There's only one contactless card you'll use for TfL transport ... and 2 seconds!?! 2 seconds, when you can see the train with open doors the other side of the turnstiles, would have had me having to wait for the next one many times over the years. And worse, 2 seconds getting into the tube during rush hour would have a queue of angry commuters behind you thinking you must be an American tourist or something. :o

I have it down pat, I can approach the turnstile at a fast walk, reaching into my right pocket and pulling out my card wallet and slapping it down onto the reader, all in one smoooooooooth motion, and proceeding though the gates without breaking my pace. 8-) :D

But I don't suppose you use public transport ... :P

No, I use a few, but of course only one on the same day.

Actually our methods are not that different. Some distance from the turnstile I will select and remove the card I wish to use, which goes in a different pocket. I then slap it down on the reader much as you do.

But I don't use public transport so often that I need a strategy. :D

Uh? Surely only your Freedom Pass? Or do you, for some reason, prefer to pay for your public transport travel? Maybe feel that as you're rich you should save your leftie council the cost of paying it for you? If so, very socially minded of you ... :P

I have five, along with various other credit card-sized cards in my wallet e.g. driving license, and like you it takes me two seconds to 'slap' the right one.

And another 60 seconds to pick up all the others off the floor, embarrassingly often.

perhaps a better wallet prevents that red-faced moment

Perhaps what is needed (assuming they work) is a so-called 'Tap & Go' wallet, RFID protected but with one external pocket. This sort of thing:

The amazon one I posted works with the card in the wallet
if it is placed in the first slot (which it has on either side)

Fair enough, though you would have thought they'd mention such a feature in the listing.

But you've already said:

I keep another card on the other side - hope that is ok with you

It's perfectly fine with me, but you replied to Stompa's post about 'Tap & Go' wallets saying the amazon one works like that whereas clearly it hadn't for you, hence the :? .

But are you saying that when reading a card on one side, despite the full thickness of RFID protected wallet in between, the reader manages to also see the card on the other side? In fact, I don't see any card slots on the outsides of the amazon one, so further :? :?

The leather at the front is thin enough for the card to be read
How I use it is up to me I'm not going to keep explaining myself
I have that wallet so I know what works and what doesn't

I cannot imagine why anyone would want to carry three never mind six contactless cards. I have two, a credit card and a debit card, both carried loosely in my pocket, although what all this has to do with the question I have no idea.

Ummm ... if the leather at the front is thin enough for the card to be read that doesn't bode very well for its supposed RFID blocking. :?

But in any case, this isn't a personal criticism. Nobody's asking you to explain yourself or how you use it, but rather to explain how this wallet works as a 'Tap & Go' type, as per Stompa's post, while offering RFID blocking and preventing "card clash".

Especially so as the blurb on Amazon doesn't mention that feature, but as you're saying it works for 'Tap & Go' it's perfectly fair for folks potentially interested in the wallet to ask you a few questions about it (about it, not you), no?
