For each sofa on the John Lewis website, for example:
https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-ba ... g/p5653737
they quote a value called 'Access Dimensions" for which they say "This refers to the diagonal measurement of the space you'll need to get this item into your home". Does anybody have the faintest idea what that means? I initially thought it might be the minimum diagonal measurement of any door that it needs to pass through, but looking at the other dimensions that doesn't seem to make much sense.
(I will get around to asking them at some point).
Thanks

It looks to be the diagonal dimension in the "plan" view
(L^2 + W^2)^0.5
which would be the radius of any attempt at rotation (EDIT: if you don't tilt the thing)

Ah well done, that does indeed seem to be correct. Since I won't need to turn a corner it sounds like something I can essentially ignore.
Many thanks.

Re: Sofa Access Dimensions (John Lewis)
I bought a sofa a decade ago from John Lewis
I knew it would be a very tight fit to get it through the door
they sent someone round to look at it
he said it was ok
The guys who came round to deliver knew him and jokingly cursed him as all 6 legs had to come off and it was still looking unlikely
but they made it in the end
Anyway tell JL you are concerned, they will either ask you to measure the door or send someone round
The onus is then on them
