I'm sure there is a simple answer to this, but does anyone know why I didn't get charged stamp duty when I bought some Glencore shares today?
I used broker interactive investor, was charged £3.99p commision and the £1 PTM levy, but no stamp duty when buying on the LSE today (I'm a UK tax payer).
Is Glencore special in some way that I don't understand? I read that companies traded on the AIM don't attract stamp duty but Glencore has a market cap of about £55B so I'm not convinced this is the explanation.
Thanks,
Chris

Similarly I don't pay stamp duty on Hiscox shares. They are in the FT100 but are a Bermudan company

According to wiki
Another unusual feature is that dividends are classified as returns of capital. (That's because it's Swiss, not because CI registered)
Where is Glencore registered?
Glencore plc is a Swiss multinational commodity trading and mining company with headquarters in Baar, Switzerland. Glencore's oil and gas head office is in London and its registered office is in Saint Helier, Jersey.
