Mitchells & Butler pub restaurants
Does anyone know what the food is like in the Marquis of Granby which is a Nicholson pub near St John's, Smith Square? It didn't look all that marvellous on their website but perhaps the picture didn't do it justice. I was hoping to use my 30% off total bill voucher after attending an event at Westminster Abbey with my family but don't want to waste it on poor food.

Not been in that one but in general Nicholsons are...not ambitious on the food front, they're pie and chips kind of places, more beer-oriented pubs that do food than "restaurants". They're fine for what they are.

Thanks, H. I think we'll give it a miss unless we can't find anything better in the area.

I have eaten in the one by Aldwych and another by Birmingham New Street station. Both had identical menus so I guess they all do, meaning they use a central kitchen. It was "pub comfort food" - not terrible but nothing special. Pies as you said, although I had salmon which wasn't terrible.

Well you're in the heartland of where politicians "engage" with lobbyists proffering fat expense accounts, so there's plenty of fancy places in Westminster, although cheap they are not....

We had a nice lunch today in our local Vintage Inn, one of M&B's brands. They were booked solidly. It might be worth looking at their website to see if they have a branch nearby.

Thanks, everyone. I don't think they do have anything suitable in that area and so we have decided to get something ready made and stick it in the oven when we get home.

If it's the one on Romney St, it's shut Sundays
