She suffered from a severe form of the disease "which progressed rapidly to severe respiratory damage," said Djillali Annane, head of the intensive care unit, interviewed on RTL . However, if the doctors had known that the patient was not vaccinated against Covid-19, they could "have given her early neutralizing antibodies, which we know are effective in reducing the risk of progression of the disease".

An excellent nominee for a posthumous Darwin award then.

There was a distressing case in the USA I read about where a covid denier caught covid and had a running battle with the doctors at the hospital all through his decline to death. He insisted their diagnosis was wrong because covid didn't exist and therefore he must have lung cancer, and they were hastening his decine by withholding lung cancer treatment and giving him covid treatment in error.

Another candidate for the same award.

From the article but not even hinted at in the headlines:

"However, Prof Paul Hunter, of the University of East Anglia, said any model was “only as good as its assumptions”, adding that one key assumption here was that severity of disease outcomes for Omicron was the same as for Delta."

Which the early indications suggest it is not.

So yes, Project Fear is the only explanation of this article, given the jury is out on how dangerous it is.

Covid: Double-vaccinated contacts in England told to take daily rapid tests

BBC News

Double-jabbed people in England who are close contacts of Covid cases will be told to take daily lateral flow tests for seven days from Tuesday.

"Those who test positive, develop symptoms, or are unvaccinated should continue to self-isolate for 10 days, under new guidance.

It means people in close contact with suspected or confirmed Omicron variant cases no longer need to self-isolate.

Fat chance of that happening now they are demanding your email and mobile number as a condition of supplying the LFT kits at chemist shops.

The BMJ have an interactive graphic showing Covid transmission and how it's affected by the various mitigation factors (mask, distance, size of room, ventilation etc.) https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj-2021-065312

10 in hospital "with" Omicron.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-heal ... s-figures/

"Mixed messages on how many in hospital with omicron
There are now ten people in hospital with the omicron variant after one person died with the mutation, the Government has clarified, after Dominic Raab said the wrong figure twice.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told Sky News this morning that there had been 250 hospitalisations with the omicron variant, before revising his figure to nine.

Following his remarks on Sky News, he told BBC Breakfast: "I know we've had one death. I think we've got nine people who are in hospital with it."

Officials later said that this was incorrect, and there are 10 people in hospital with the omicron variant at present. "

Or part of the "softening up" campaign to introduce further measures - except he got caught out...

If we are going to get additional lockdown measures, a report from the Guardian has some explanation of the trade-offs between timings and consequences, based on Omicron's observed doubling time in the UK:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/10/stringent-uk-covid-measures-needed-within-a-week-leak-reveals

If it's correct, we should know by the end of this week (Sunday).

Scots urged to limit socialising to three households

BBC News

People in Scotland have been asked to limit socialising to three households at a time in the run-up to Christmas amid concerns over the Omicron variant.

"First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the advice would not apply on Christmas Day and that plans should not be cancelled."
