Microsoft has blacklisted Brit hosting outfit TSO Host's bulk email domain, meaning anyone trying to send large quantities of mail over its infrastructure cannot deliver it to an Outlook or Hotmail address.
Irate resellers got in touch with The Reg to complain that their own customers were moaning that emails sent to any Microsoft domain were bouncing.

In cases of banning traffic based on IP addresses, the system might block the traffic of a spamming user by banning the user's IP address. If that user happens to be behind carrier-grade NAT, other users sharing the same public address with the spammer will be mistakenly blocked.[6] This can create serious problems for forum and wiki administrators attempting to address disruptive actions from a single user sharing an IP address with legitimate users.

I think the founder is looking to pass on the mantle to a consortium of third parties at some point as it has become a lot bigger than he first intended.

Cont.It is now harder for hackers and spammers to impersonate ProtonMail users that have custom domain email addresses. We have introduced the DKIM key management in beta, which allows you to manually rotate your DKIM keys. This is part of our continuing effort to make it more difficult for attackers to impersonate our users’ custom domains.
Cont.Custom domains offer you a way for sending messages from other addresses other than @protonmail.com. You can use your own domain with ProtonMail, and send messages from the addresses you add.
