I don't hold, mostly because I can't understand the mindset of customers, but then I've been called enough names over the years to realise I'm not normal either, so I'm a weirdo and they are just a different sort of weirdo, are there enough of them and where do these weirdo's get their money from?

Anyway so far my loss :-(

Lesson from PV how much does each store make (divide profit by number) if it looks mad, it might well not be true, figuring how why is the trick and since auditors haven't been terribly good at that, what chance does joe ordinary stand.

Nerds who grew up with this stuff are all computer programmers and accountants now. They have money.

Most of Games Workshop's money is made through third party trade outlets and online. Their own stores help with visibility and customer recruitment but are not the main profit driver.

I can remember a few years ago when you really couldn’t give the shares away on a dividend yield of nearly 10%. Everyone (including myself) thought that computer gaming was going to kill them off. Turns out they are selling space marines better than ever!

Happy to say I hold. I have high hopes of their IP. Sooner or later someone is going to make that Horus Heresy epic series that the fans deserve.

They are kind of the Apple of the gaming world. The products are high quality, high price point, high markup. But luxury you can afford. Sold through their own shops and independents. Cheaper alternatives exist, but their loyal customer base wouldn't touch the competitors' products with a bargepole.

Not at the moment. I used to, and might do again in the future. I play some of the PC games though.

Somewhere deep in storage I have 2000 points of assorted Space Wolves miniatures, a Necromunda gang, BattleFleetGothic bits, some Epic-scale Blood Angels and Ork Gargants and an embarrassing number of poorly dry-brushed hobbits. I am afraid my painting does not match the quality of Citadels casting.

One day I will break em all out again for the Emperor.

I have to say as an ex-GW customer I hated Age of Sigmar and thought the new WH40k edition was a bit pants. But I have thought the same about pretty much every edition since Rogue Trader and 2nd Ed. I still have my much loved 1987 era Rogue Trader copy knocking about. It is hard to deny now how brilliant and original the world-building was in that book: 30 years on it is still the touchstone for GWs narrative success.

One thing that has never changed: Citadel make the best, most exciting miniatures range in the world. I defy anyone not to get excited when they first glue up a Space Marine and start to paint. Competitors like Manticore Games are coming up fast and aping Citadel, but GW is at at another level.

I have since moved my gaming on to different, more wife friendly areas: somehow poker and LCGs are ok with her but orks and genestealers are not.

While shares in other UK “hobby stocks” such as philatelist Stanley Gibbons and model railway maker Hornby have struggled, Games Workshop has prospered.

The company’s market value at almost £1.5bn exceeds well-known names such as electricals retailer Dixons Carphone after shares soared 19 per cent last Friday.

The surge in shares last week — they have risen more than 700 per cent over the past three years — followed the group’s announcement that half-year profit would be 34 per cent higher than last year.

I wish I still held.

I bought a few hundred pounds worth on 25 January 2001 and sold four weeks later for a 53% profit after all costs.

My small purchase would have been a worthwhile holding now.

I wish I'd bought these!

moorfield junior #3 has just spent another £60 on their website this evening on stuff I don't understand, to add to his ridiculously large collection of plastic tat games figures breeding around the house. Still, keeps him off the phones/screens I suppose.

Mmmm...

I wish I'd not done the maths.

My initial investment of £483.81 would now be worth £22620 and I'd have collected just north of £2k in dividends.

At least you don't miss what you've never had...

EPS up 8%. Given they shut the business down for 6 weeks of the year that's not bad at all.

Also resumption of dividends:

Yep. I wish I'd kept mine too. The shares that is. I have still got the painted skavens and the orks etc etc. I loved painting them all.

The shares are silly money now and show no signs of retreat. Would have been nice to have bought the dip..... mmmm

I did very well getting out of a lot of uk positions right before the Brexit vote. Sadly this one was culled in that activity and never repurchased always waiting to get back in :(

Another great Trading Update released late on Friday.
the Board’s estimate of the results for the six months to 29 November 2020 is profit before tax of not less than £80 million (2019: £58.6 million)
In fact they only did £89 million for the full year 2019! Expect a big pop on Monday.

One of those companies whose valuation always seems high at the time but they keep surprising on the upside.
