Jefferson Airplane.
They headlined Woodstock, so why not Glastonbury? Only just managed the 50% mark

Re: Glasto dream headliner?
Kill? Must be a modern term with which I’m not familiar.
Immediate reaction would be Wishbone Ash playing the entire Argus album in the correct order. No idea if they qualify on the 50% part (it didn’t stop Itsa’s Queen selection) but I’d make do with the studio version. 40+ minutes of bliss. They can repeat a few if they want. Make it an hour.
Oh and if the crowd could be banned, other than a few select friends, that would be fine with me.

Interestingly, they headlined the forerunner of Glastonbury, the Bath Blues and Progressive Music Festival in 1970. I know because I was there, hitch-hiked.

The group that Michael Eavis would like most to see.
Fleetwood Mac (with guest star Peter Green of course)

So was I. Quite a line-up, but I'd have been there for Zappa alone. We didn't hitch hike, but there were seven of us in a Mini down from Brum - three in the front, four in the back. It would have been a bit tight for air if it hadn't been for the wind whistling up through the rust-holes in the floor.
My first ever experience of somebody having a bad acid trip, right beside us. It was enough to settle any curiosity I might ever have had about the stuff.

For me... The Clash.
Did anyone else not sleep after watching the stunning Bowie headline slot from 2000 last night? Poor old Ed Sheeran having to be shown after that! It was the first time since lockdown that I completely lost myself for two hours in stunned disbelief - was it really two hours? I have never heard him sing better live and with a band that was so amazingly tight. Incredible.
All the best, Si

I don't think either would cut it these days without the main men out front
I don't think the Stone Roses ever got round to headlining it?
so if ABBA are already claimed I'll go with them

Any of you Jefferson Airplane fans listened to Jorma Kaukonen's more recent stuff?

Oh. I'll get my coat. I didn't read the OP properly! If we're not allowed re-incarnation, I'm not interested! To be honest I'm not interested in watching crumblies who are way past the sell by date headlining Glastonbury. I thought the sets by The Stones and Springsteen were both embarrassing tbh and I had no wish to watch Paul McCartney this year either. The one thing a headline act needs apart from a catalogue of great songs is vitality IMHO. I'm not a huge fan of her music but I thought Beyonce was brilliant.

..................................... in fact I was at an Abba tribute (who were really rather good) last year and I guess there would have been about 800 folk there.....and the place was absolutely jumping.
I can also imagine the Beatles, if they could rope in a couple of suitable replacements, would rock the place.
I believe the Abba tribute band were Bjorn Again. Seen them many times and they are great. As for the Beatles the Bootleg Beatles have played Glastonbury several times. Again they are very authentic and just as good as the real thing which I also saw back in the day.

Now you're talking!
Also Pink Floyd would do it for me, they'd have to do the whole of Darkside Of the Moon with Echoes and Shine on you Crazy Diamond as encores.
Abba I could cope with "The Winner Takes it All" and "The Day Before You Came" but some of the rest not so sure.

Yes, tried a fair amount of Hot Tuna and his solo stuff, but apart from the odd song, it doesn't really do it for me. I preferred his more wild style of the Airplane days.
Airplane went downhill after Woodstock and never recreated the 67-69 period. The only spin-off I liked were the two albums by Grace Slick and Paul Kantner (Sunfighter and The Ballad Of The Chrome Nun)..... they were good

Thanks
I was asking as I was recommended his "Live at Sinai Free Synagogue" on Spotify (it does a pretty good job of recommending stuff) a while ago and really enjoy it
His playing reminds me of John Renbourn, his singing a bit like Taj Mahall and Barry Mitterhoff on mando sounds like Bill Monroe at times. So all in all an interesting mix of blues/folk/rag/bluegrass

Re: Glasto dream headliner?
AC/DC with no Malcolm Young? That would just leave Angus from the original line-up
Although one can argue about 'original' line ups - they were most successful with Bryan J after Bon's death
