When sending a card from Germany to the UK most of the address is as per usual , but what about the country name?

Großbritannien ?
Vereinigtes Königreich ?

Will a letter to UNITED KINGDOM make it, or will Deutsche Post bin it?

I'd expect any of those to be fine. Most Germans speak English. Even GB should do. It's a common enough acronym.

It's more of a problem in languages with different alphabets. Russian, Hebrew etc. Where they can't even read the words.

Just checked my annual letter from the German pensions authority asking me to prove I'm still in the land of the living. ;) They used to address it to Grossbritannien but latterly to Vereinigtes Koenigreich. I seem to remember writing England on my letters home when I lived and worked in Germany. (a lifetime ago!) I think Great Britain is more usual now.
