What happened to spam?

#388861

Postby Rob625 » February 22nd, 2021, 6:42 pm

I normally get dozens of spam emails a day. For almost four days now I have had none. What's happened?

It's all down to Brexit - too much red tape importing it! ;)

I like the idea of keeping some in the car for emergencies.

Just make sure you have a tin opener, or it will be like Three Men in a Car.

Could be your spam filter has been upgraded?
Check your junk/spam folder
I have work email and Gmail
The work email junk folder has very little in it and is deleted automatically
Gmail has a bit in 'spam' - mainly along the lines of;
'You have $22,341.21 in your Bitcoin account - log in nwo to receeve cash MR Crawly' [sic]
'Martin Lewis recommends doing this to make $10,000 extra a month' [obv not really that Martin Lewis]
Less than 1 per day

I'm think Spam comes with a key. Even if I'm misremembering my car has enough tools I'd be able to open a tin. I'm reminded if I do pack emergency Spam I must remember the mustard.

The alarming thing about spam is what it is made from.

Imho the only way to eat spam is as a fritter, somehow a bit of frying oil disguises the taste and it can accompany an egg within a roll disguised by HP sauce.

Once you cut your slice take a good look at it, mark it well, then fry and take a good look at it again; the fritter is now noticeably smaller as all the fat within has melted away during the process, it is one of the few foods where frying it could be the healthier option, although even healthier is just do not eat it.

You're lucky. I get at least 6 per day and for some reason, most of them are in German.

Nothing unusual in my spam folder recently. Just the usual attractive Philippines women, Nigerian bank accounts, FBI-proof carry holsters for air travel with my Glock revolver, and the great universal secret that Donald Trump is about to reveal to the world. Oh, and the daily custom that makes Masai warriors such great lovers. Yawn.

But wait! Arctic Today is telling me that its paywall is being reinstated, and that my free subscription period will shortly end. And The Spectator magazine is offering to pay me if only I'll agree to try and read it. Again......

I have a can of Bacon Grill 'for emergencies'
Must be well fried, and it's better to not inspect it too closely before incineration

Spam fritters are the sort of food that seem a good idea at 1.00 am after returning from the pub.

Which is just the moment when we'd be least well advised to play with fire. :?

Six a day?

It's twenty years now since I last (experimentally) turned off spam filtering for a week. Though known spam-factory domains were still firewalled off.

Got 4000-4500 a day during that week.

Just make sure to have the one with a rotisserie attachment so you can cook the spam properly...

Is spam the same as what used to be called pork luncheon meat? If not, I'm not sure I ever encountered the kind that you'd have in a tin.

I was only born in the 1960s, so I don't recollect a time before email was invented.
