Do you wish we still had a 'My Fool' ?
I''ve requested a My Lemon Fool link be added to the top navigation bars.
Until then you could just bookmark this page: ucp.php?i=main&mode=subscribed and name the bookmark as 'My Lemon Fool'.

Re: Tips on navigating the boards
Can anyone tell me what it means when the lines in the icons to the left of posts are scrolling?

Doesn't it just mean there are multiple pages in the topic?

No - I can see topics where the 'pages' display in the middle of the line indicates multiple pages, but the circle at the left hand end is not scrolling. But you have triggered the guess that it might indicate that multiple pages contain unread posts, as a warning that you'll need to do more than just click on the red circle to catch up on the board. Or something similar - I'll look out for it happening and try to confirm or correct that guess.
The one thing I do know that it means is a mildly irritated Gengulphus - a moving image among mostly stationary ones attracts the eye quite strongly, which is good when the eye needs to be attracted but a visual distraction otherwise!

It's not just unread posts, there are grey (no unread posts) scrolling ones too. It's the number of replies that triggers the (annoying) scrolling.

Yes, it means it's a "popular" topic, by some definition.

I replied elsewhere but go to Sectors & General Shares viewforum.php?f=3 and click on the relevant forum. Perhaps it is "Share Ideas" you are after viewforum.php?f=33. When you get there you should see the "New Topic" tab (top & bottom).

PinkDalek
Many thnx for that.
Doing as instructed I did indeed find the New Topic button, so made my post.
However, it appeared as a post under Share Ideas, not under my new proposed sector Heading
of: "Investing in REITs & Propcos"
So. I'm part way there; but still wasting hours trying to do this
Any further ideas?

You can't create a new forum (board), as that is down to the site owners***. Where you've started a new topic (thread) seems as good a place as any. I'm viewing "Share ideas" as the Paulypilot's of old. Other views may differ. The TMF "REITs and Property Companies" board had all of 500 or so posts, so it seems unlikely to have a separate board here.

Yes, although stooz has said they may re-introduce it on specific boards.
In case you or others don't know, the "Friends" facility is available in your control panel, such that one can readily find all posts by, say, stooz and Clariman. It isn't a luvvies type thing in that i don't think others can see you've be"Friends"ed them, if that is an issue!

Could we not have a separate Football Fools board rather than it being mixed in with all other sports?
I'm sure the posts would justify it.

Re: Tips on navigating the boards
I miss the functionality of 'My Fool' - a list of new posts on just those boards I want to follow. Fortunately there is a near-equivalent available here. You can subscribe to Boards (link is at the bottom of each forum view) and to threads (the 'spanner' tool above each post). Then just go to ucp.php?i=main&mode=subscribed There you will see a red icon against any of your favourite boards that have new unread posts, plus any new posts on subscribed threads, even if they're in a board you don't subscribe to.
Just bookmark the above link and name it 'My Lemon Fool' - you'll find it so much easier to follow those boards that are important to you.

How do I start a new topic?
When you're reading a topic (or thread in old money...), you'll only see the 'Post Reply' option, to post a reply on that topic.
When you're reading a list of topics on a board, however, you'll see a button that says 'New Topic', which will start a new topic on that particular board.
Cheers,
