The case for hydrogen in this video is made by Andrew Forrest, non-executive chairman of Fortescue Metals an Australian corporation.
Forrest is a credible businessman:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Forrest, 2nd richest Australian.
The video is 35 minutes long with the first 6 minutes all about background that has some useful scene setting stuff, Forrest talks from about 6 minutes on.
For anyone who follows this field there is nothing new here, save for the size of the commitment that Fortescue are aiming for.
The thesis is simple: Fossil fuels are unsustainable and the world needs to transition to green fuels asap. He talks of generating electricity from solar and wind and then converting water into hydrogen & oxygen and then using the hydrogen to power everything via fuel cells with out discussing if fuel cells that can do this exist in commercial forms. It may be that I have missed something and such fuel cells exist and if so please point me to some links describing them. Additionally he argues for green steel and green fertilisers.
It all makes for a compelling investment case in Fortescue metals if one can use hydrogen via fuel cells to power all surface transport. If one can't make commercial fuel cells then burning hydrogen in ICE is far less attractive than battery storage and BEV imho.
