Is there a cunning reason why all the watches in Rolex adverts ( or at least the random and small sample that I've looked at ) are set to Monday 28 ( or whichever of those two is available ) ?

1.The first reason(and most important) is for the visual appearance. The date 28 fills up the whole date window and just looks good and symmetrical. Of all numbers, the number 28 fills up the space the best.

2.The number 8 is also the symbol of infinity.

3.Each month of the year has 28 days.

( I see XFool found the same website :))

Presumably meaning: There are at least 28 days in every month of every year. Until... (Well, they do call it a "Perpetual Date" watch!)

the time is often set to 10:10 because it makes the hands smile on an analogue rotary clock face.
Even digital watches are set the same - because your subconscious knows the watches are happy.

Thanks to you both. You must have asked Google a better formatted question.

There is an alternative, more Freudian, explanation for the "10 past 10" choice.

Not sure I get you drift. I thought it goes back to the Mickey Mouse watch, where the arms are outstretched.

Surely we are talking about 10 to 10 or 9.50.

Although to be fair, 7 of the first 8 are 2 photos with the colour swapped (either that or the leather graining is matched perfectly on their watch straps).

Another set then, from Bremont

(I get an awful lot of watch advertising on Facebook as I was looking for a new one...)

New? Pfft.

I bought my Rolex second-hand in 1987 from a jewellers in Cullum Street EC, worn it regularly since, never serviced tut tut, keeps perfect time.
The glass is a bit scratched but never mind.
Why new....

Not a Rolex...
Just fancied something to replace my 20 year old £40 Lorus
(and if I was getting a Rolex I'd be very worried about counterfeits... I guess you need to get them checked over by a Rolex dealer)

I picked up a fake Rolex from a market in Marrakesh years ago........it cost me £4. It certainly looked the part but didn't last a week before the bezel fell off.

I think if you buy second hand from reputable jewellers, the chances of it being fake are very small. Usually they will have the watch serviced before marketing it.

Having ...erm..watched some watch channels on youTube, there are some very good Rolex fakes out there.
They are genuinely good watches in their own right, but they're just not Rolex

Indeed
It's fun to see what they'll get away with when you're wandering about on a trip; I remember being presented with catalogues of "Genuine Fake Rolex" in Kowloon.... but using it as a watch I'd feel like a fraud!

I had an Omega smashed beyond repair about 20 years back - came off my wrist in a bike crash and was run over
- since then I've avoided watches that I'd worry about if I lost them... ...and I switched to Nato straps

So if you want something quirky and interesting I can recommend these https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/vostok-amphibia

Yes, I always go with NATO straps now. I get them direct from CWC (~ £10 for a genuine one)

My wife came back from a trip to China many years ago with a pile of designer teeshirts in her case.

They were dirt cheap and although a few were obviously polyester fakes, some were extremely good quality.

As watches go, I rather like this one:

Only $459,000 and I believe they have a BOGOF deal.

very, ermmm, different
If money were no object (but still keeping away from the ridiculous) I'd go for this very retro Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, although I'd change the strap to something less furry...
