UK larger cap IT
Hi, I am looking for a recommendation of an investment trust for UK larger companies. Just wondered if anyone had any tips?
I have Blackrock Throgmorton for UK smaller/mid cap, so I’m looking to complement this.
I’m looking for an investment trust rather than a fund.
Many thanks all!

Re: UK larger cap IT
Obviously there are a few. Those who follow the AIC website more than I will come up with a list , but the two that spring to mind would be City of London and Edinburgh IT. You could I guess add in Temple Bar and no doubt others which have a UK bias such as Murray Income.
Interesting though. Why would you want to buy into UK larger companies? Some have had a half decent record over the last few years but plenty of others have a best stagnated.

Vanguard FTSE 100 UCITS ETF GBP
LSE: VUKE
OK -its an ETF, not strictly an IT, and its passive - but it covers the UK large cap field
EDIT addition - and it closely follows, slightly above the total return from City of London IT (CTY).

The place for those will be in either the UK All Companies or UK Equity Income sector. The tool to use to drill down further is the investment company screener https://www.theaic.co.uk/investment-com ... lue=%7B%7D
This uses the underlying holdings data to determine the market cap. When on the screener, choose the AIC sector, hit "Show more" then choose the three large cap styles and voila you have the companies that hold the largest underlying stocks.
I was trying to insert a screenshot to help you but can't work out how

Answer the question, as my teachers used to say!

That is a very helpful list and of course as always some have a better record than others, although it depends on what the OP is looking for.

Yep agreed. Those are just names on their own. If the OP uses the screener link on UK Equity Income he will then find the data on gearing, yield, performance, charges etc. and be able to chart it or put them side by side with graphics on sector exposure too.

But the OP didn't say anything about wanting an income IT.
So is the problem that there isn't a decent choice of ITs that invest in the FTSE-100 that aren't income ITs?

That did strike me as well. It is a I think the mindset of many posters here. I am not knocking it but as I said, it depends on what the OP is looking for.
I would personally go for a generalist and there are several generalist UK ITs that would fit the bill, but now that I think about it I am not at all sure what the OP is looking for.

Finsbury Growth Trust ( FGT) ?
But even that's only a limited percentage of " UK large caps''.

Re: UK larger cap IT
Many thanks for the suggestions everyone. Dod101….I don’t think I know what I am looking for either
My UK exposure is relatively small; I have approximately 5% of my portfolio invested in UK equities, as I try to duplicate each region’s proportion of a global index.
At the moment I’m invested in Blackrock Throgmorton, but I’m aware this is weighted towards mid and small cap. I was considering gaining exposure to some larger cap companies through an investment trust.
I’m a pretty novice investor so I’m aware my knowledge doesn’t quite match some of you posters on here! I really appreciate your thought and suggestions though. I will have a look at the suggestions and do my own research.
Many thanks!

Particularly, if you are concerned about inflation. Just about all holdings have excellent pricing power and it is currently at an unusual discount of nearly 5%. It went ex-dividend today. For transparency, I bought some this morning but don't let that put you off!
All the best, Si

I know. But I did the same screen on the UK All Companies sector and none came up so I didn't bother pointing this out. And therefore your second point I agree there are none outside the equity income sector.

A gent on here as pointed out that the link to the screener didnt work for him. Apologies if I did the wrong one. It works for me. Please just find "screener" on the home page ribbon on the main site if the tool interests you https://www.theaic.co.uk/
