She went to school in Glasgow so that is not surprising, surely?

Oh, I know, Dod. I'd be very disappointed if she pronounced it any other way (except Glesga or Glasgae, perhaps )

How do you pronounce Paris? Or München and Москва?
You don't have to pronounce names the same way as the natives...

Or even use the same names.... Munich, as above, and also Florence etc are the English names for those settlements
We have changed to local names for some though - Peking, Madras, Bombay, Calcutta....

Stop throwing inconvenient facts into the discussion.
I'm with Doolally on this. Lancastrians say it right. Yorkshire lads and lasses say it right (I noticed Nina Hossain got it right on the lunchtime news. She's from 'uddersfield). It's just those down south who want to sound posh

Glaswegians should just be grateful that we are talking about Glasgow at all, regardless of how we elect to pronounce it. Normally there is no reason to.

Not to worry, next conference is going to be in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllantysiliogogogoch so everyone should start practicing now
58 letters in English but only 51 if you use the Welsh alphabet. - good one for pub quizzes

Funny, ISTR the locals (or at least whoever is responsible for the sign) use the English spelling

Re: It's not Glaaahsgow
I was brought up with long vowels. If I pronounce Glasgow, but no other words, with a short vowel, might I not be accused of taking the ####? Should I also adopt a fake Welsh accent pronouncing welsh names? I mean.. I've tried it both ways and neither feels totally comfortable.

I am not sure that the complaint is that they don't say it like the natives - that would probably go down a bit worse ?!
Weedgies wouldn't e.g. say Landan or Lawndawn unless they were taking the micturition
- having some news ponce choke on a glottal stop could cause an international incident
Anyways with a scrote of them visiting various environs today (sounds like Glasgow Uni has been cleared of locals for them) I'm hoping there might be some challenges for them; fingers crossed their field trips involve Milngave

Some of the Germans have given up and seem to think its Munich They are much more tolerant of these things (unspoken: "than the French"), arguing that who the heck wants to learn German anyway.
(PS that's my experience among Germans some years ago, so could be out of date)

Re: It's not Glaaahsgow
As previously complained about, Bayern Munich is an odd Anglo-German mix....
I assume the local fans still call them FC Bayern München
I've got an old T Shirt from that fine city too - with the state flag and "München Bavaria" written across it

Well the club itself does : https://fcbayern.com/en
But sports clubs can be odd, not least because so many of them were set up by expat Brits - it took me a long time before I realised how weird it is to have an Italian club called AC Milan.

FC Bayern for short- which is another oddity. Bit like Southampton calling themselves Hampshire FC ( and to hell with the rest)
Hampshire CCC is fine of course

The one that amuses me is seeing road signs in both English and Welsh giving directions to the airport. Important to preserve the heritage of the local word used for 'airport' over the centuries

Not really, since the state name is actually part of Bayern's full name, which isn't true of Southampton. About the only direct British equivalent I can think of is Golspie Sutherland FC. Plus oddities like Glasgow Perthshire FC, which are connected to a charity funding places at Glasgow universities for kids from Perthshire.
