Computer security barring access to one account

#460666

Postby Sunnypad » November 24th, 2021, 7:18 pm

Hi all
My computer security is blocking me from one of my accounts.

It's Mcafee. Does anyone know if there's any steps I can take to allow it through? It's just one organisation where there's a problem.

Thanks.

More information please. What exactly are you doing, and what does it say? Are you sure it's a McAfee problem?

You can reset the firewall to the default settings:
https://service.mcafee.com/?articleId=T ... ticle-view

But I don't really know what the problem is, so that might not help.

You could also try uninstalling McAfee to confirm that was indeed the problem. Windows' built in antivirus isn't too bad.

Third party firewalls usually cause more problems than they fix in my experience. Assuming that it is a McAfee firewall problem.

Thanks Midsmartin
I will try that on Friday - not around tomorrow and v hungry now

Summary of problem
Log in to account, no issues
Then
It wants to text confirmation

I hit "send code" for them to text the code

The button greys out and nothing happens

I called them...they say it's flagging up that it can't get any further through my computer, which I guess is the firewall

They suggested it might need to go on a list of approved sites but I can't see the logic as it allows me to get that far initially. Tel numbers checked and double checked.

Thank you.

there can easily be a site that it's trying to make use of (e.g. for the validation) that is blocked by whatever security/firewall is on your PC
you might be able to use your browsers "developer" mode to see the network traffic to identify what's blocked (don't worry it won't make you a geek the first time - and it's a lot simpler in practice than it sounds )
- and then whitelist those links

- or temporarily disable the firewall just for this operation

Try a different browser. I've had the odd occasion where a site doesn't work properly with my default browser, Firefox. Trying the same site with Chrome or Microsoft Edge has sometimes sorted the problem.

Ok, first you say "My computer security is blocking me from one of my accounts" but then when you describe the problem you just say "I hit "send code" for them to text the code. The button greys out and nothing happens".

So, what makes you think that nothing happening is due to computer security? I'm not familiar with McAfee but most security programs give some indication when they block something. Indeed, firewalls usually pop up a panel asking you if you want to let the connection through or not.

Are you getting any indication anywhere of anything blocking anything? (look around: toolbar, taskbar, windows notification area, etc, etc)

And just to be sure, we assume that you've had no problem logging into that account before, so, have you double and triple checked the address is kosher and you really are where you think you should be? Did you type in the address, use a bookmark, or follow a link in an email perhaps...?

Do you have an ad blocker? I have had a case where the site "pops up" a message box and the ad blocker stops it.

Need to look after her today and tomorrow, should get home Sunday

Ad blocker has jumped out at me though.

There are many potential reasons why you might be blocked from accessing your account. It could be a temporary issue, or there might be a problem with your account that requires you to take action.

Some of the most common reasons include:

-Entering the wrong password too many times
-Trying to sign in from an unrecognized location or device
-Not responding to our attempts to verify your identity
-Having an account that's been flagged for suspicious activity

I think reading this article https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/46526?hl=en will help you in finding the deep root reason of your actual problem . In this guideline, further solutions have also been mentioned. Best wishes.
