personal financial news
First. Just got my renewal notice for my house insurance this morning. Current premium £316.96. Renewal premium £237.44, without even asking.
I assume this is the result of the insurance reforms and that I have been over charged for some years. Still, good news.
Second. E10 petrol 150.9 per litre at my nearest Tesco. All very orderly and no queues. That is up about 5p per litre on the usual price.

Re: personal financial news
I just got my renewal notice from Direct Line. Previous rate £478. New rate £185!!!!
The rate in previous years has been fairly stable. I knew I could get a better rate elsewhere but for various good reasons (too many other things going on to worry about it) I stuck with Direct Line.

Good for you in one sense but although I was probably paying over the odds looks like you were by a much greater margin. My current figure has been stable for a long while, usually by dint of me calling them up and discussing it with them. These would suggest a big drop in premium income for Direct Line although it may only be for long standing customers. There may not be that many as people do seem to chop and change with great regularity, and if insurers can persuade people to stay with them for longer that surely will cut down on their admin and help everyone.

Re: personal financial news
My house insurance renewal has just arrived. Sadly it has increased rather than decreased, though fortunately only by about 2%.

I agree, though I suspect this time round I might not be able to beat the quote by much.
