What's Tesla's BTC holding these days?

Down to $21k, it's lost more than TSLA YTD (54.44% vs 46.06%)

Yes, if Tesla still own it, there will have to a markdown in the accounts.

Elon Musk says solving self-driving is the difference between Tesla being worth a lot or nothing

- https://electrek.co/2022/06/15/elon-mus ... r-nothing/

Well that's not good. All that first mover advantage on BEV production, revolutionising the way cars are built, and battery technology so advanced it will make all the competition obsolete count for nothing, and it all comes down to the performance of a precocious autopilot?

Looks like some of the critics of the claims made for Tesla's development and valuation might of had some points....

I mean, he is clearly right.

The only justification for the price is the hope that they can solve the FSD problem, and no one else can. If they can, they are worth a lot. If they can't, they aren't worth that much.

The other aspects, building cars, charger network, batteries, solar installation, dancing men in robot suits, don't really matter compared to that.

It looks to me as if Musk is oversimplifying or over-emphasising the FSD issue and it's a rather binary statement. I admit I don't know why the company is valued as it is but it does seem - putting the FSD aside - that Tesla ought to succeed as a profitable car maker on its other merits, whatever they are. I'm a great admirer of Musk but my own worthless view is that FSD is simply too difficult a problem to solve in the foreseeable future. I can see it mostly working in many places but that isn't FSD.

Ha ha, this is Elon's little joke for people not paying attention.

Tesla fully diluted earnings last year were $7.37, the current price is $674 giving a p/e of 91.5x and with growth of 50% this gives a forward peg of 1.82

This is dirt cheap, growth business often trade at pegs several times this.

FSD, if it happens, is now available essentially for free, the equity is like owning a call option on fsd that doesn't expire, as the business itself is wildly profitable and is getting more so as prices are being relentlessly raised.

By contrast Ford have noted that the lightning is not profitable and anyhow have stopped selling them due to technical issues:

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2022/06/fo ... -loss-bug/

All of legacy auto is in very serious trouble, only Tesla has got world class BEV and they have far more demand than they can supply with cars ordered today often not being delivered for over a year.

The Free Speech Absolutist strikes again

Elon Musk's SpaceX fires at least five for letter criticizing him-sources

June 17 (Reuters) - At least five employees were fired by private rocket company SpaceX after drafting and circulating an open letter criticizing founder Elon Musk and calling on executives at the start-up to change the company’s work culture to make it more inclusive, according to two people familiar with the matter.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The New York Times reported earlier on Thursday that SpaceX had fired employees associated with the letter, citing three employees with knowledge of the situation. It had not detailed the number of employees who had been dismissed.

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell sent an email saying the company had investigated and "terminated a number of employees involved" with the letter, the New York Times said.

Another workplace discrimination suit, this time from a shareholder:

Tesla investor sues Musk, board over accusation of workplace discrimination

June 17 (Reuters) - A Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) shareholder sued the electric car maker, Chief Executive Elon Musk and its board, accusing them of neglecting to tackle complaints about workplace discrimination and harassment, and engendering a "toxic workplace culture."

Thursday's lawsuit is the latest against Tesla, which has been accused of racial discrimination and sexual harassment in its factories. read more

"Tesla has created a toxic workplace culture grounded in racist and sexist abuse and discrimination against its own employees," the investor, Solomon Chau, said.

"This toxic work environment has gestated internally for years, and only recently has the truth about Tesla's culture emerged," he added in the complaint.

...oh and this:

Elon Musk and companies sued for $258bn over alleged Dogecoin ‘pyramid scheme’

Elon Musk and his companies have been sued for $258bn by an investor who claims he was “defrauded” by a Dogecoin “pyramid scheme.”

The investor, Keith Johnson, has named the entrepreneur, as well as his companies Tesla and SpaceX, in the lawsuit filed in federal court in Lower Manhattan on Thursday.

Mr Johnson is demanding $86bn in damages in addition to tripled damages of $172bn for losses incurred from trading the cryptocurrency since 2019.

SpaceX's Starship rocket project can continue in South Texas, FAA review finds...

That work is finally done, the FAA announced today (June 13). And the result is mostly good news for SpaceX: The company can continue its Starship work at Starbase, which currently centers on prepping the huge vehicle for its first orbital test flight, without the need for an environmental impact statement, a stricter and more time-consuming review.

The greatest show on earth moves a little closer.

The more of the replies and comments I read on the Lemon, the more I wonder if many of the posters should reconsider if they should invest money.

There is a huge disconnect between what happens in the world and what posters think should happen and there seems an inability to separate personal emotions from investment decisions.

Agreed, although given how tame Tesla's board has been I do think that this will be a reliable stream of future lawsuits.

Of course, how else could so many posters get so wrong roaded in their thinking.

I study things in great depth & analyse from that & an historical perspective. Most posters neither study or put current opportunities into an historical context, instead they have emotional viewpoints & allow that to steer their analysis.

Hundreds of SpaceX employees signed letter denouncing Elon Musk’s behavior

The letter was only distributed for a day and a half

It took less than a day and a half for more than 400 SpaceX employees to sign onto an open letter criticizing CEO Elon Musk after it was posted and shared by some of their co-workers in an internal chat. Just 32 hours after it was shared, the internal landing page for the document was taken offline, around the same time that a group of employees was fired for their involvement in crafting and sharing the letter, a move that may have been a violation of labor law.

The open letter first went live on an internal landing page at noon Eastern, and then it was shared by a handful of employees to roughly 10 chat rooms in Microsoft Teams as well as one email list. The contents were bold: the employees asserted that Musk’s behavior in recent weeks had become a source of embarrassment and a distraction for the company. The letter writers offered suggestions for ways that SpaceX could distance itself from Musk’s Twitter presence as well as do better to hold executives and those who commit sexual harassment accountable.

...While the document ultimately got 404 signatures, many more people reached out to those who shared the letter on Signal, in person, and through Teams, saying they would sign if they could afford to get fired at the moment, according to a person involved. In 2017, another Musk company, Tesla, fired an employee for distributing pamphlets encouraging employees to unionize. Additionally, in May of this year, Musk also tweeted that Tesla would be forming a “hardcore litigation department” to “directly initiate and execute lawsuits.”

Their fears turned out to be credible, as SpaceX management wound up firing at least five employees for their involvement with the letter. SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell then sent out an email to the company, denouncing the document and informing the company of the terminations.

Ha Ha, so Steve Hanley job, as he admits in the beginning, is to get more clicks, earning his fee with this article, timed for the New US vacation on Monday of Juneteenth.

Perhaps once Hanley wrote articles for one of the political parties, this one is about as useful and informative as one gets in poltics.

No one cares about Hanley, no one cares about employees who don't like their boss, but people do care about someone who makes the world a cleaner place, someone who makes wealth for investors and someone who is a rocket builder.

There will be a sizeable bunch of people who will think this kind of thing matters, but a much bigger and far more wealthier group who will laugh and ignore it.

The biggest danger to Tesla and SpaceX is that Elon Mush should be killed, failing that one can ignore al of this ridiculous rhetoric.
