TLF Autumn Social 2019
Af'noon all,
Who fancies an Autumn Social ? Realistically, it's going to be October earliest
So when and where?
Any suggestions ? Basic rules (feel free to disagree);
--In central-ish London, ideally within or near the Circle Line (it's the London Social after all)
--Easily accessible by train from all points of the compass
The Clachan ticks both boxes, but some have mentioned that;
it's expensive
it has smelly drains outside
there's nowhere to sit as a group
it's busy inside
Hopefully they have fixed the drains, and we are going to feel less like standing outside in October anyway - which may make the lack of seating more of an issue...
Trouble is - find a pub in central London that's cheap and has plenty of space on a Friday night, and it's probably awful
Thoughts?

Re: TLF Autumn Social 2019
I'm up for it. Meeting our Terry (aka tjh290633) tomorrow evening (well strictly speaking today) for a beer in Goddard's Green after a morning massage with the oh-so-capable Nicola and a flight around Sussex and Kent doing stalls, steep turns, and practice forced landings with an instructor.
Happy days!
Chris

Not a good day for flying, Chris, but it should improve after lunch. See you at the Sportsman.

The above Pub, off Carnaby street allows reservation of a bank of tables at the back of the venue.
Might be an idea?

Yes, not looking promising is it. Because of the air work involved we need a higher cloud base than for a standard flight. Trouble is my licence expires at the end of the month and I'm flying to Germany for the weekend tomorrow early so if it doesn't happen today it will have to be a test with a CAA examiner next month. Oh well.tjh290633 wrote:Not a good day for flying, Chris, but it should improve after lunch. See you at the Sportsman.

It's a possible, its in a reasonable location (not far from Clachan) but;
They allow 'free' reservations - "...opportunities to reserve small areas of our pub for special occasions during the week at no cost.." but I'm guessing there are conditions attached, otherwise people could just reserve table on spec and not turn up. I suspect there may be a minimum spend required, with a card behind the bar. Not easy with uncertain attendances and everyone buying their own beer (although I'm always happy to accept a pint from csearle etc)

Stick with the Clachan then, on a date you decide, unless we drift into November.
We have found a table or two in the past, at the back, when it has got a little quieter. Not that we'll need two tables, given the numbers ***. Last time around I found one of our fold upstairs. No idea if one can drink up there, as against eat, and it is sometimes booked.
*** Unless Snorveykins decides to spend a few quid on a flight and drum up Mussolini's lookalike and others.

Re: TLF Autumn Social 2019
Hmm.. best to avoid Friday 1 November as it's B-day +1 (theoretically)
May still be some tear gas and rubber bullets flying around.
(Although tear gas probably preferable to the famous drains)
