Now the mystery here is.... Why did the Second World War last from 1939 - 1948, but only for the UK?
For everyone else it apparently lasted from 1939 - 1945. Check it out.
This despite my already having drawn their attention to it and them having confirmed receipt of my email.

Could the date be when the demobbing process ended - it certainly went on through 1947 but might have extended into 1948.

Rationing continued well into the 1950s.
I am fairly sure that I had a baby gasmask in the mid-1950s.

Something like that crossed my mind. However, by an admittedly cursory look, it seems this dating is exclusively applied to the UK and to just WW2. I cannot see why the same principle ought not to apply to other nations and the UK in WW I. So I am far from sure whether it is deliberate or just a mistake. It is, AFAICS, the only exception and looks very odd.
